The Education Committee for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 5B will focus on supporting and enhancing the educational experience of residents across Brookland, University Heights, Michigan Park, North Michigan Park, and Woodridge neighborhoods. The committee’s activities would center on advocacy, partnership, and resource recommendations for local educational institutions, including childcare centers, and families. Priorities for the Committee will include enhancing equity and access to education, as well as strengthening local schools.
Core Objectives
Advise ANC 5B on education-related policies, issues, and opportunities impacting area public, charter, and private schools, as well as out-of-school programs, childcare centers, and adult education services.
Facilitate partnerships between residents, schools, community organizations, and DC government agencies to improve educational outcomes and family engagement.
Identify needs and opportunities for enrichment, equity, and access within the ANC 5B boundaries or affecting 5B residents by collecting feedback and sharing findings at commission meetings.
Recommendations
Committee Recommendations to the Commission pass via majority vote of the Committee in a public meeting.
Per Commission 5B Bylaws Section VII.1.3, "Standing and Special Committees are advisory bodies and may make recommendations to the Commission, which the Commission is not bound to follow."
