Development, Zoning, and Land Use (DZLU)

Scope

The Development, Zoning, and Land Use (DZLU) Standing Committee was authorized by the Commission on January 22, 2025.  

The Committee may advise the Commission on projects requesting:

The committee may additionally advise the Commission on illegal construction, vacant/blighted properties, building/construction permitting, the Comprehensive Plan, vision frameworks, and other planning documents involving development, affordable housing, and business.

This committee shall establish a tracking mechanism and schedule to follow up and report on all relevant hearing dates.  Items shall be added if determined to have importance to the Commission or upon request by any Commissioner.

Recommendations

Committee Recommendations to the Commission pass via majority vote of the Committee in a public meeting.

Per Commission 5B Bylaws Section VII.1.3, "Standing and Special Committees are advisory bodies and may make recommendations to the Commission, which the Commission is not bound to follow."

Committees consider matters on behalf of the Commission in order to make recommendations for action by the Commission.  They are designed to allow for extended dialogue about proposed projects and issues.  Commissioners and community members are encouraged to participate in these meetings. 

All Committee Meetings are publicly announced at least 7 days in advance and open to the public.
